This is an interesting way to enhance our students vocabulary. I had heard about this fun-filled activity from one of the trainees long back.
Vocabulary Cricket game:
* Make two teams of 11 students each. If there are more then there can an umpire, third umpire, scorer, time keeper, spectators, etc
* Give a list of vocabulary to each team. Two students from one team can act as batsmen and one student from other group can be a bowler
* Bowler dictates a word to the batsman. The batsman has to quickly write the word . Correct spelling is the rule. The runs can vary like: three lettered word = 1 run. four lettered word = 2 runs, five lettered word: 3 runs, six lettered words: 4 runs, seven lettered word: 5 runs, eight or more lettered word: 6 runs. (The only condition is that the batsman should write the word within 15 seconds. If he fails, then dot ball)
* Strike can change according to the runs scored. If the batsman scores one run then the strike goes to other batsman and then the other student comes to answer next word.
* One bowler can ask 6 words (just like 6 balls in a over) to the batsmen.
* If the batsman writes wrong spelling then he is out.
* If there are any queries with the correct spelling, then umpires can help.
* The spectators can cheer their favourite team or batsman.
Optional ways to conduct it:
* Get the words listed from students only
* Increase or decrease the difficulty of words according to the proficiency level of the students
* Instead of spellings, you can use for synonyms or antonyms of the words to score.
* This way you can conduct the activity. You can always change the way it is conducted.
